MISTI, a program that connects MIT students and faculty with research and innovation around the world, funded my 2013 summer internship in Israel. I worked as a member of the REBIT Team in The Leslie and Susan Gonda (Goldschmied) Nanotechnology Triplex in Bar Illan University in Ramat Gan (near Tel Aviv), Israel. The REBIT Team is a unique multidiscplinary group that focuses on developing and studying emerging biologically-inspired technologies.

The goal of my project was to reimagine they way we build and to begin generating ideas to create a new antimicrobial building material for areas especially prone to the rapid spread of pathogens, such as schools and hospitals. My reseach involved analyzing the structure and architecture of the nests of the Edible Nest Switlet from Southeast Asia. After understanding its properties, I designed and experimented with different 3D printed bricks inspired by the nest. The Prezi to the left is my final presentation to the REBIT Team after my 2.5 month summer internship.
